Grip Tape On Slippery Stairs

Grip Tape On Slippery Stairs

Under normal circumstances, climbing or descending stairs is uneventful, but a lack of proper friction between the foot and step can send children and adults tumbling down the stairs in a heap. In fact, according to Nation Master, over 1,300 deaths in the U.S. resulted from a fall on the stairs. Installing grip tape on stairs provides the friction needed to maintain contact with the step and may prevent injuries stemming from slipping and falling on the stairs.

1. Purchase the appropriate grip tape for your location. In fact, demose offers stairs with grips.

2. Sweep the stairs and wash the steps with cleaner to remove any soil or residue on the steps. Allow the steps to dry completely before installing grip tape.

3. Measure the width of the step to determine the length of grip tape you need to cover the edge of the steps.

4. Measure and cut the grip tape to the appropriate length.

5. Mark the area for the grip tape with a pencil. Measure 1/2 to 1 inch from the edge of the step near the side of the step. Mark the spot with your pencil. Repeat at the opposite side of the step and draw a straight line between the two points. This forms a straight, even line for the grip tape.

6. Peel the paper from the back of the grip tape to expose the adhesive. Work slowly, peeling an inch or two at a time, while pressing the tape in place on the step, following the penciled line as a guide. Smooth the tape as you work to remove any air bubbles and create a tight bond.
